Our Book Recommendations for June

June Bookstack Westwood Books

We asked the staff to recommend some of their favourite reads at the moment.

Paul chose...

Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythall - “An easy to read, hilarious look at life in a book shop.” We think he might be using this for on the job research!

Heather chose...

On Chapel Sands by Laura Cumming - “a real life mystery of an abduction and complicated family life” This was made more fascinating because it's true. Anyone interested in family history would love it.

Penny chose...

June Bookstack Penny Westwood Books

Diary of a Nobody by George & Weedon Grossmith - "Extremely funny"
Dear Lupin by Roger & Charlie Mortimer - with links back to Diary of a Nobody, a father writes to his son. Also an amusing read.
South by Ernest Shackleton - tales of an extreme polar voyage

Caitlin chose...

Dracula by Bram Stoker - “an interesting and iconic vampire tale”
Wuthering Heights - “a tale of love and loss as well as social class”
These are classics that are both usually available in the shop in some format or another.

Young Adult Recommendations

June Young Adult Bookstack Westwood Books

I asked Caitlin to help me pick out some recommendations for our young adult readers. Here’s what we went with:
A Series of Unfortunate Events is a quirky tale and guaranteed to teach you a new word or two.
The Vampire follows Darren as he adapts to his new life as a half-vampire.
Holes is a book about misfortune, trust and righting past wrongs.
La Belle Sauvage (Book Of Dust) is a good fantasy adventure.
Boy and Going Solo are Roald Dahl’s autobiographical tales of his adventures growing up and being a pilot during the war. Really well written and even good for an adult easy read.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night is a fascinating insight into one boy’s alternative way of viewing the world around him
Edward (our teenage son) recently read 1984 by George Orwell - “it will mess with your mind” was a direct quote from him!
All of these books are available in the shop at the time of writing, if you're interested in buying them please just ask.
Happy reading!
